'Evil destruction' of a happy family
A system involving social workers, police and courts took a child away from loving parents for no apparent reason, writes Christopher Booker.

Two weeks ago I reported as shocking a story as this column has ever covered. It described how a loving family was torn apart when the parents were arrested by police on what turned out to be wholly spurious charges, so that their three children could be taken into care by social workers. As reported on another page, it now seems this awful episode has come to a happy ending.
However a new case has lately been surfacing, if anything even more shocking. This also involved the arrest of two parents and the abduction of their child by social workers, in a story so bizarre that, at last week's Prime Minister's Questions, Gordon Brown was asked about it by the family's MP, Charles Hendry, who has long been concerned with the case because the mother is a vice-chairman of his local Conservative Association. The family's horrified GP says that, in 43 years of medical practice, he has never "encountered a case of such appalling injustice".
I first planned to describe this case in April, but was pre-empted by the draconian reporting restrictions on family cases, which, for reasons which will become tragically clear, have now been partly lifted.
The story began in April 2007 when "Mr Smith", as I must call him, had a visit from the RSPCA over the dog-breeding business he ran from the family home. He had docked the tails of five new-born puppies – a procedure that had become illegal two days beforehand. Unaware of this, he promised in future to obey the new law.
Three days later, however, at nine o'clock in the morning, two RSPCA officials returned, accompanied in cars and riot vans by 18 policemen, who had apparently been tipped off, quite wrongly, that Mr Smith had guns in the house.
Armed with pepper spray, they ransacked the house, looking for the nonexistent guns. The dogs, released from their kennels, also rampaged through the house. When Mr Smith and his wife, who was three months pregnant, volubly protested at what was happening, they were forcibly arrested in front of their screaming five-year-old daughter "Jenny" and taken away. Two hours later, with the house in a shambles – the dogs having strewn the rabbit entrails meant for their dinner across the floor – social workers arrived to remove the crying child.
Held for hours in a police cell, Mrs Smith had a miscarriage. When she was finally set free, she returned home that evening to find her daughter gone. It was the beginning of a barely comprehensible nightmare.
Her husband was charged with various offences connected with the dogs, including the tail-docking, but was eventually given a conditional discharge by a judge who accepted that he was "an animal lover" who had not been cruel to his dogs.
Far more serious, however, was that the social workers seemed determined to hang onto the child, now in foster care, on the sole grounds that they had found the house dirty and in a mess (the "animal entrails" played a large part in their evidence). This was despite the testimony of a woman Pc (who had visited the house a month earlier on a different matter) that she found it "clean and tidy". Two hundred horrified neighbours, who knew the couple as doting parents of a happy, well-cared-for child, were about to stage a protest demonstration when they were stopped by the police, on the social workers' instructions that this might identify the child.
For more than two years the couple have been fighting through more than 100 hearings in the courts to win their daughter back. From a mass of evidence, including psychiatric reports and tape recordings made at meetings with her parents (only allowed in the presence of social workers), it is clear she has been desperate to return home. It is equally clear that considerable pressure has been brought on the child to turn her against her parents,
One particularly bizarre psychiatric report was compiled after only an hour-long interview with the little girl. When she said she had once choked on a lollipop, this was interpreted as signifying that she could possibly have "been forced to have oral sex with her father".
After Mrs Smith alone had been subjected to four different psychiatric investigations, which came up with mixed findings, she refused to submit to a fifth, and this apparently weighed heavily with the judge who last December ordered that "Jenny" should be put out to adoption.
In the Appeal Court 11 days ago, Mr Justice Bodey ruled that, because the mother had refused that fifth test, indicating that the parents put their own "emotional wellbeing" in front of that of their child, the adoption order must stand. When this judgment was reported, an independent social worker, who had earlier been an expert witness in the case, wrote to Mr and Mrs Smith to say he was "horrified" to learn that Jenny was "not back in their care", having assumed for over a year that "she must have been returned home".
Their equally horrified GP, saying that he had never "encountered such a case of appalling injustice", wrote "the destruction of this once happy family is in my opinion evil". So shocked was their MP, Mr Hendry ,that he last Wednesday took the highly unusual course of raising the case with the Prime Minister at question time. Numerous others who know the family well have expressed similar dismay. One neighbour, herself a former social worker, whose own daughter often played with "Jenny", said: "I worked with children in social services for 25 years and I have never seen anything like this. It is disgusting."
What is clear in this case, as in so many others, is that a system involving social workers, police and courts in what is an obviously very close alliance should yet again have left a happy, loving family destroyed for no very obvious reason, Almost equally alarming is the way that system manages to shield itself from the world, through reporting restrictions which it claims are designed to protect the children but which too often end up by protecting only the system itself.

It it's so obvious that the social workers in this case had to lie and exagerate the details to get a care order and have to keep lieing to keep the child.
If this case was in the newspapers from day 1, with every social worker and "expert" named, the child would not be on the way to feed the perspective adopter industry and the perspective adopter "needs".
It's this type if injustice that gets hidden in the secret family courts and this type of injustice that causes parents who feel injustice to go to jail for trying to expose the problem. This article should cause more of a driving force to open the all the hearings in family court's, all hearings, including adoption proceedings.
With case details with drastic extremes at the start, the Judge in this case was obviously making orders to pacify the local authority. The same local authority got another baby adopted a few years ago, wven though there was an application in the Court of Appeal and the LA wouldn't let the real father make an application to keep his child in the family. (I know of another forced adoption from the same LA that didn't make the media).
Social workers force adoptions through with such force that it can't be seen as anything but unhealthy and disturbing. It's no wonder that no one wants to join the ranks of a profession that claims to keep families together but in reality, they make adoptive families a higher priority.
The social workers aren't even listening to the child and taking the child's views into consideration. When this poor girl gets older and doesn't trust social workers, they will claim that she has a "disorder" and therefor a risk to her own children.
This case reeks of social engineering and experimentation on humans and their families.
If there was no force in the adoption process (and only parental consent), would this family still be suffering in the way they are now? I doubt it and the social workers involved in this case would be very unhappy and disappointed.
The Police who raided the house have a duty to "serve and protect". They obviously failed in their duty here. More reason to refuse to cooperate with the Police.
I hope the ECHR take notice if this case gets outside the nanny state prison walls of England.

The East Sussex county councillor responsible for scrutiny of Children's Services is Conservative Michael Ensor (email: cllr.michael.ensor@eastsussex.gov.uk
I am sure that both would carefully consider constructive messages of concern about this case where the services they are responsible for are causing traumatic significant harm to "Jenny" a child in their corporate "care".

Report this commentReplace family court judges by juries when longterm seperation of children from parents or worse still forced adoption is contemplated;
Any burglar facing a prison sentence of 6 months or more can demand a hearing before a jury so how can it be right or just that parents who risk losing their children for life to "forced adoption" are denied this option. Juries consider complicated medical evidence in cases such as murder, and compensation for injuries, also complicated tax laws in cases of fraud, and insider dealing. The simple decision whether a mother accused of risk of emotional abuse should keep her newborn baby or not would I think we must all agree be more likely to favour the mother if considered by a jury but records show that such cases nearly always favour the social services if decided by a judge. That is probably why juries are banned from the family courts but allowed to decide libel cases in other civil courts! To take a newborn baby from its mother and give it away for adoption by strangers is a far far worse punishment for her than any jail sentence as it condemns the mother to a life sentence and the baby to probable death later in life if it should require a kidney or bone marrow transplant or other medical attention in which a birth family member was needed but could not be located! How can this be justice?

Report this commentAnybody who wishes to defend the "care" system on here should take a trip to some of our prisons, youth offenders institutions and red light districts where they can see the futures of our "stolen generation". These hellholes are full of people from our wonderful care system.
Yes it is right to remove a child who is being seriously abused, but is it right to steal a child on spurious claims and take them down this route? Do any of you really know any adults who have made a success of their lives after growing up in our "care system", no I didn't think so. Nobody should ever want to destroy a child's life like this, and for anyone who makes the claim that a child is only taken as a last resort really makes me sick!! Everybody knows now that family court decisions are made on a balance of probability rather than proof. A burglar in a criminal court will get a slap on the hands, whereas a heartbbroken mother in a family court who was a little over anxious about her sick child will receive the worst punishment possible, the removal of her child forever with no possibility of the adoption being reversed. Evil claims made by a network of court appointed crackpots with their crazy theories are destroying lives everyday. My heart breaks for these families. those poor children whose screams are hidden from the public eye.
No-one on here will ever convince me that these people are well meaning, after what they did to my family and I, I will never trust anyone ever again. My advice to anyone with children is if you have the money, emmigrate to somewhere more normal. There is an agenda to break up loving families, I can think of no other reason than that for tearing mine apart. Thanks to an enlightened judge and my determination our precious children came home. We were lucky, most are not. I will always be eternally grateful to her.
We will never feel safe though until they grow up. I smile and love being with my kids, but my heart is so sad.

Report this commentThe solution proposed by Jack the American (20 July, 11:22) would work. But battering RSPCA employees, cops, social workers and judges to death, however satisfying, means the collapse of the rule of law. And then we all lose.
On the other hand, we appear to have here a dysfunctional group hiding behind the law, so what can law-abiding citizens do?
I'd suggest going after the funding of the RSPCA.
The parents should write to HM the Queen setting out the facts of this case and requesting that she withdraws "R" from the RSPCA. Other readers might wish to add their voices to this. That should dent the 110 million they collect each year from an unsuspecting public.
If that doesn't work, I would go after the RSPCA's charitable status - kidnapping kids is not charitable.
I'd leave the cops and social workers to the next government to deal with. With the nation's dreadful financial situation, it will make sense to stop the pensions of state employees dismissed for abuse. Charles Hendry MP may wish to propose this to his boss.

Report this commentCorruption and blackmail in the Family Court continue.
PAIN, sent a McKenzie representative to the Family Court in Cumbria, to deal with a Public Law Case, we have been involved in, for several months.
On arrival at Court, the Client, chaperoned by her Social Worker, told Yvonne, that if PAIN, continued to be involved in the Case, the Parents would have their Children Adopted, and all forthcoming assessments canceled.
Due to LA threats, we have had to butt out, leaving this poor Lady, with no Legal Representation.
It was to late in the day, for any Children's Panel Solicitor to take on the Case.
I will be speaking to my Co Workers, with reference, to the way forward, and complaint.

Report this commentOne can only hope that the prospective adoptive parents will be aware of the growing publicity and great public concern about this miscarriage of justice.
Is the local authority fulfilling its duty to keep prospective adopters fully informed of all the relevant issues in this case?
No prospective adopters with any degree of integrity should proceed with an adoption application in these circumstances.
If they do proceed, it is highly likely that the adoption will fail, and that Jenny, when she is older, will reject them and 'vote with her feet' by returning to her natural parents.

Report this commentThe public find it hard to believe what is happening to THOUSANDS of parents in the UK.
3 points to make;-
1:-The following extract from a judgement in the House of Lords confirms that alone in Europe the UK CONTINUES to allow and encourage the barbaric practice of taking children from loving and desperate parents and giving them to strangers for closed and secret adoptions without parental consent.
House of Lords - Down Lisburn Health and Social Services Trust. Baroness Hale of Richmond. Judgement
There is, so far as the parties to this case are aware, no European jurisprudence questioning the principle of freeing for adoption, or indeed compulsory adoption generally. The United Kingdom is unusual amongst members of the Council of Europe in permitting the total severance of family ties without parental consent. (Professor Triseliotis thought that only Portugal and perhaps one other European country allowed this.) It is, of course, the most draconian interference with family life possible.
2:-Children taken from parents should legally go to kin where possible.(Qhildren Act 1989)
Although kinship placements are supposed to be the preferred option in this country, only 1 per cent. of social worker-instigated placements ended up with kinship carers, compared with 45 per cent. in Denmark, for example(EVIDENCE given in parliament June 16th 2008 by Tim Loughton MP shadow minister for children)
3:-Physical abuse or emotional abuse?
Baby P was 17 months old when he was tortured by his mother's boyfriend in spite of 60 visits by social workers and 3 visits to hospital. It all culminated with a visit from a specialist paediatrician who failed to notice that he had a broken back, 2 finger tips sliced off, several finger nails pulled out, 12 broken ribs and bruises all over his face and body concealed by chocolate. He would still be alive today if someone just once had given him a cursory physical examination but this was not done, probably because as usual Social Services etc. were intimidated by this brutal child abuser living in smelly and sordid surroundings with his sluttish partner and his Rottweiler dogs so they left the horrible family alone to look for easier prey, mostly among the respectable middle classes.
Most people seem more intent on wreaking vengeance on the murderers of Baby P than preventing the same situation occurring again; may I therefore make a suggestion?
Social Services plead shortage of staff and financial resources as excuses for overlooking torture of children (even after 60 visits to Baby P). In other European countries they take children from parents only if they have been severely physically or sexually abused but in Britain we waste most of out valuable resources fighting cruel cases in secret and costly courts to remove children and even new born babies at risk of emotional harm and for similar lesser reasons. The parents of Baby P would never have gone to court to fight for his return if he had been taken earlier as parents that violently physically abuse their children avoid courts like the plague!
Physical torture KILLS KILLS KILLS!!!
Emotional abuse does NOT
Poor school attendance does NOT
A cluttered house does NOT
Witnessing domestic violence does NOT
Hostility to the professionals does NOT
A parent with learning problems does NOT
Where therefore should the SS priorities lie?
Im only asking!!
I would have thought myself it was MORE IMPORTANT to concentrate on preventing babies being tortured rather than the more common rush to remove babies AT BIRTH from mothers whom some highly paid psychobabble merchants have decided may at some future date emotionally harm their babies!Crystal ball gazing?
If all the resources of child protection were used to examine thoroughly (looking for visible bruises and burns) say once a month, all those children suspected of having been seriously physically or sexually abused thousands of childrens lives would be saved. At present our resources are wasted fighting in courts to remove happy healthy children from their parents for risk of emotional abuse and similar non life-endangering symptoms. Only parents that truly love their children fight through the gruelling ritual of the secret family courts and against all common sense they nearly always lose. If they dare to protest publicly more than 200 parents a year are jailed (answer to a parliamentary question) for breaking the omert wall of secrecy!! If only mothers facing a life sentence by losing children to forced adoption had the right to a hearing by jury most of the present injustices would disappear. In short, what is needed is simply concentration on eradicating physical child abuse and then introducing hearings by juries who would rarely take children in other cases such as emotional abuse, cluttered dwellings, poor school attendance etc.

Report this commentKnowing the parents in this case since their initial duplicitous RSPCA raid and all that followed.
Comments are made about rabbit entrails - they ran a small commercial breed kennels, rabbits were prepared in the kitchen and the dogs were in outside closed kennels except subsequent to the raid when the dogs were seemingly released to maraud the hous (unhouse trained kennel dogs!) yes they gained access to the kitchens dragging rabbit parts around the house in the absence of human/adult control.
Do not forget the 3 month pregnat mother was handled with so little sympathy she had a third tremester miscarriage in custody, without comfort, help or medical care!
These parents have 13 years of marriage behind them and their daughter was very much a gift the father was misdiagnosed as infertile and they fought for years to have IVF.
This was a much wanted child.
Neighbours I have spoken with speak in huge support, Doctors support them and the truth WILL out.
They are like you and I, they have characters and personalities, holes in their education and started out with a blind faith in THE STATE - jumping through all the required hoops - providing the SS & the Courts with report after report that could be selectively misquoted.
Who can claim they are perfect parents ALL of the time? We KNOW the SS and the system are NOT very good parents - remember 80% of UK born prisoners were for some part of their childhood in the care of what seems if not a mallign state clearly a misguided state!

Report this commentSocial services are even taking children from mothers who report domestic violence.Social workers have no idea of the dynamics involving domestic violence.Yet they take these children after getting referrals from the police and care orders from the easily led and terrified judges who believe all social services nonsence.
Then they refuse to give childen back to mothers who have separated from their abusers by paying 'court' pyschologists to state that the mother has failed to protect or cant protect which would cause the child 'emotional harm'.
How can a mother be failing to protect when she is reporting the abuse? what else can she do when she is being witch hunted by social workers claiming the mother is 'weak, obsessed with her abuser, puts her relationship before the childs welfare etc.. the list goes on and the majority of women do not fall into this catagory at all!!
Does this government want domestic violence reporting or NOT? DV stats have apparently gone down and the government along with police seem to give themselves a pat on the back...did it ever occur to anyone that women are NOT REPORTING through fear of having their children taken and adopted never to be seen again??
My story was in this newspaper
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3983341/British-social-services-tried-to-kidnap-my-son.html .
Social service shave ruined my life and that of my family. I cannot even return to my home country, the damage that has been done is more damage than my ex partner ever caused me and he certainly didnt damage our childrens lives at the time we were going through his drinking problems. I was doing quite well controlling his behaviour by calling the police before social services came in and created more problems.
Yes there are incidences of domestic violence going wrong and ending up in deaths but as someone said before it is the worst that can happen and very unlikely. In court it was claimed by social services that i had had broken noses, fractured shoulder..i had no such injuries ever! they along with the police also had my ex partner for causing a small red mark on our sons head as a result of him hitting me and me dropping him..THAT WAS A LIE TOO i did not drop my son i put him down during an argument, the mark was probably caused by a typical run around 2 year old tumble, yet it was referred to as a 'swelling' by social workers! .As a result of this my ex partner was labelled with a section 1 having assaulted a child which sent him in even more in turmoil and more drinking!.
I am not excusing his drunken and sometimes violent behaviour i am stating facts from both sides of the fence.
Yet i see how social services work very hard with the police to take children from parents whatever the reason is order to 'butter up' the judge and 'make up things' to justify the reason for their kidnappings.
Forced adoption should be banned so no mistakes are made against innocent parents and a Jury should be brought in to decide if a child should be taken into care or adopted (in the current adoption law) ,this would surely be fairer than a judge who dare not go against what social services say through fear of media etc..
Whilst the government is at it i think no child should be taken from mothers who experince DV instead the courts should deal with the abuser by barring him from the home and giving him the help from the public purse not using it to take children away!

Children are people. They have a right to confidentiality too. Even when it is inconvenient for the adults. Otherwise a child who has been abused will not feel safe enough to explain anything in case they are returned to an abuser. They will not wish to have their "disloyalty" exposed. Abused children often do still love even terrible parents. "Transparency" would just increase their inner turmoil and distress.Imagine a rape victim having to confront a rapist who they might have to go home with later.
Checks and balances must not mean
that all children and vulnerable people are sacrificed. All because a few parents with little insight into their own mental states or behaviour, or journalists with naked ambition want to make a fuss.
It cannot be beyond this country to create a system with trustworthy checks and balances. This will never mean there are no mistakes. It will never mean there can be decisions without pain.
What are the checks and balances now? That is what we need to know.

By your reckoning no one should say anything and the next baby turns up ,is neglected, and ends up in care or dies. All at vast expense to the taxpayer and a crummy life for that child. You suggest
never setting any limits on people with proven mental health problems, or addictions, or previous failed parenting, or people knowingly choosing to stay with a violent partner. We don't set enough limits. There are 500,000 referrals
and only 30,000 are picked up. If we made it very clear what such limits were the exercise of any authority might but only might be less necessary. If one is talking about a person who is very limited
for one reason or another reason does not much come into it.

In the time this case has been run for we have heard a huge number of complaints from other parents who have been trapped in this evil web of destruction .children are being abused by being seperated by their biological parents for no good reason this is such an evil crime being comitted. we will be running a campain to have family courts open their doors to the press and to have peoples cases brought to the media attension and their local mps so the goverment can be made aware of so many peoples complaints and its just not swept under the carpet . we would like to give the ultimate respect for the people who are working in our case and others alike our hearts go out to you all a big thankyou to dennis rice for making this case public to the media and all the support he has given to us.We would also like to thank charles hendry mp from the conservative party who has been involved for over two years and has supported us fully .John hemming mp from the libral dems who is totally commited and a compationate man to have family courts open to the press and also chris brooker who led the story in the sunday telegraph. And all of the other journilist who believe that this should be stopped which they are growing in numbers to get a better system in the courts so that familys can have a fair trial. and for this abuse to be stopped on inocent children.Yes we are devostated beyond belief jenny was our world and we feel that our hearts have been ripped out there is not a second that goes by without thinking about jenny. We are not prepaired to sit back and let her be adopted lets make a stand and do something about family law in this country. To many people do not protest and let these evil ss have their own way its time to make a stand dont keep quiet tell your mp.Our hearts go out to everyone in the same situation just remember your not alone, we will support you as much as we can god bless you all from jennys parents

Report this commentAs a parent and an American all I can say is this - If ANYONE cop, judge, social worker, etc. ever took my kid from me they would simply die. I would find each one involved and work them over with a shovel. Simple as that.
Their diplomas, badges, and uniforms would be very little protection from my wrath.
Jail would mean nothing to me compared to the satisfaction of literally seeing the life force fade from their eyes by my hands.
Their veil of secrecy would not be enough. I would find them all and do society a favor in the bargain.

If your goals are so noble and pure then why do you need secrecy to execute them?
It may be as you say that these parents put the children at risk, but if that were the case, could they have garnered 200 witnesses to their defense?
Not to mention they have notes from a previous visit that state the house was "neat and tidy".
Not to mention there is videotaped evidence that social workers tried to turn the child against the parents.
The only thing queer here is your attitude that you are the soul arbiter of people's behavior, using the most spurious evidence before pounding with your gigantic gavel *GUILTY*.
Witch trials were held in secret too.
Protecting the identity of the children is hogwash. This is a secret society beholden to nobody, reveling in their power to hold parents in the palm of their hand and deciding whether to squish them or not. Evil loathsome things crawl in the dark. These creatures cannot stand the light of day. I say repeal the secret veil. Open family court workings to all (if you're all so honest and pure, then there is nothing to hide).

In the past fortnight I have had to give my usual advice to those about to go through the 'system'.The advice was accepted albeit with a certain amount of disbelief. I wasn't surprised though when a phone call informed me that certain members had been caught attempting to pervert the course of justice and the evidence had gone to the appropriate authorities. In fact they stated that the evidence'had been handed on a plate' indicating that these deceitful individuals were confident in their ability to go undetected.

Report this commentAlan I am not a social worker at all. The more people scream for blood the less good people will want to become social workers. Screaming for blood will mean people will fill out forms, never leave the office, and not use their
eyes and common sense. The more screaming there is the worse it will get. People will not manage worrying situations they will cover their backsides.
All this just ramps up blame culture. It does nothing to improve anything.
Since we want all this done on the cheap it is hard to imagine how things can be improved. But we are all dishonest. We do not want to pay.
The public seem to think there are no checks and balances. The public seems to think a few social workers in collusion with a bent or dim judge steal children. Perhaps the public need to be better informed about how it all works and about the hellish decisions that have to be made. Decisions that will cause pain either way and can only be least worst.
And Joseph Health Visitors have to be nurses with extra experience. They are not thick at all. They know about early child development. One of the few sensible things this Govt has done is http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/social_exclusion_task_force/family_nurse_partnership.aspx
Sort it all our early and a child might actually do well.

Report this commentAs a "victim" of the cruel family court I cannot tell the public enough how bad it really is in there. We are fantastic parents who had our children stolen for absolutely nothing. After a long fight, in which our lawyers even conspired against us, we managed to win them back and were fully exonerated. Let me tell you I never saw the nasty, druggie parents in those courts, just innocent, heartbroken parents pleading, screaming and crying for their kids to be returned.
They use the phrase "in the interest of the child" well I neer saw any evidence of it. My children were assaulted while trying to cling on to me as they dragged them away. Their cries will haunt me forever. My children only saw us a couple of hours a week, no telephone calls were allowed. If I cried in front of them I was threatened that I could not see them again as I WAS UPSETTING THEM!!!
The social workers are not the only culprits, we had a paediatrician who committed perjury on the stand, a psychologist who blackmailed me, absolutely unbelievable. The schools, the police, the GP, the health visitor, the court appointed crackpots, they're all in it together.
They wanted my children because they are very good looking and highly intelligent. It is a social engineering experiment, why else were we forced to have IQ tests? We are intelligent people, perhaps not as rich as their prospective adopters.
Our lives have been destroyed, our kids are badly damaged and I have nowhere to turn due to the stigma. I do not want to hear from people defending this corruption on here, quite frankly you do not have a clue what you are talking about, and if you are a social worker you do not act on the interests of a child, you systematically abuse them!!!! I know what my children have told me since their return.

Report this commentVery little has changed, since the horrendous events of Cleveland in 1986 where over 200 Children were wrongly taken into Care, after allegations of sexual abuse were made, against Parents.
Conflicting Medical Evidence was given by Paediatrician Dr Marietta Higgs,in the family courts, later to be dismissed by other profeshionals, after her theories were challenged.
Since the tragic death of Baby Peter in Haringey, and other Local Authority failings up and down the Country, Care Proceedings have risen by 75% in some areas.
Babies are being taken from Hospitals, within the West Midlands,on Emergency Protection Orders, from Mothers, within hours of birth, in some cases Social Services have very little evidence to support such drastic action.
If common sense doesn't prevail, there could be many other Parents, that could suffer miscarriages of justice, and forced adoption, via the secret family courts.

Report this commentLike many 'indignation' stories, this one leaves out a lot of details. The details told here do sound very fishy. For example, the 'rabbit entrails' that ended up all over the house: if this was for feeding the dogs (!!!!), how did the dogs get access to this stringy body parts? Normally, when one stores this sort of food, it is kept in refrigerators.
So, how did it move from refrigerator to the floors if the adults were absent?
Secondly: the story mentions the pack of dogs were turned loose. By whom? This is left out since I suspect, the parents had the dogs loose. Indeed, putting 2+2 together, I bet the dogs were accustomed to running riot in the house and the entrails were left scattered about as play toys for the dogs (I never feed my dogs rabbit entrails!).
Since these two key items are already rather odd, to put it mildly, I bet a lot of the rest of the story is equally queer. I have had to sue to remove children from hazardous homes in the past.
The parents always claim the roaring messes were temporary, accidental or caused by the police. Always, the children want mommy and daddy and all mommy and daddy have to do is a minimum of housekeeping, proper food handling, etc.
But they won't do this! Why? Who knows. People get very set in their ways. If they are used to rabbit entrails lying about, they don't notice this, for example. If beds are not cleaned or rotting food lies on the sofa, they don't notice it, this is 'normal'. The list of things that are 'normal' can grow tremendously long.
This is why social services has to step in. If the parents are even slightly cooperative, everything works out. I have represented people who lost custody of children and I always advise them to be polite, cooperative and to try to change their own lives. The ones who try this find the courts to be suddenly very cooperative.
As a victim of child abuse, myself, I feel very strongly that children should get help. I even asked my parents to put me up for adoption when I was young. They refused. When I became an adult, they even would attack me verbally, telling me I was crazy and not them being crazy! When I retort, 'Why didn't you get psychiatric help for me?' They clam up.
This is classic for child abusers. They blame the child, and if the state steps in, they blame the state. Never do they look in the mirror.

Report this commentThe recent Laming report means a terrifying system could actually get far worse. The report recommends Health Visitors are trained in child protection - a job which requires low intellectual capacity and is ripe for poorly educated staff making unsubstatiated accusations.
What happens when these stories are so numerous and everyone knows someone who's child has been snatched and people stop taking their children to their GP or hospital because they're terrified that any illness or injury could be put down to abuse ?
People have to have trust in the medical service.

Report this commentA recent story in another newspaper reports a record number of adoptions are failing with children being returned to children's homes because their behaviour is so disturbed, the adoptive parents can't cope.
Of course it makes sense that kidnapping and adopting out children from loving and stable families (on spurious or fictional grounds) will improve adoption statistics (whether financially incentivised or not)since those children will not have behavioural problems.
I would never adopt since I could not be 100% sure the child had not been forcibly removed from a perfectly adequate and loving family. I could never be involved in such a cruel and immoral process.

Or was she playing in the midst of a large number of dogs who could at any time turn pack and rip her to shreds? People who work with animals can become very very complacent. Report this commentI understand that a measure of the competence of the SS and the cohorts of the State as surrogate parents is the indiginously born prison population!
I understand approaching 80% of the prison population of those born in Britain were for part or all of their childhood in the 'care' of the state!
Perhaps if the state spent less time filling quotas and enforcing the Frankfurt School's Communist policies of Political Correctness to apease the plethora of parasitic QUANGOs we might find there were less Baby Peters, less Victoria Collumbies, less need to promote paediatricians FROM Cumberland, less products of care homes in prison and a far happier safer society.

There is something worng with the way social services is conceived and how little actually it is funded. .There is something wrong with people going into Social Services with strong politics but little education. There is something wrong with a culture (also media driven) which hangs, draws, and quarters Social Workers when deaths happen as they will.
The State cannot do it all and it is not possible to get all this "right".Let me repeat that. There is no way to get all this right. Someone will always get hurt. It is total fantasy to imagine otherwise. We have handed it all over to the State and demanded perfection. There is no such thing. Sweden does better but there is still no perfection.
Who in their right mind would become a social worker. Badly paid and wrong always.
We actually don't care or we would fund it train people from different professions to do it and we would back them up. But as Joe has said what this is about is making money for journos and feeding Christians to lions for public entertainment.
The idea that all the differing professionals are stupid ,evil, or in cahoots is just wrong. This will make it all worse not better. As someone who hears from children about hurts they suffer I can tell you it will. these are not matters for a public circus. Parents will not always get what they want.
The media has become ego driven
and semingly omnipotent. We do not have a "right" to know and "knowing" will fuel the dramas of parents with PDs. It will also increase the hurt of children and of parents who have to let them go.
By all means question the structure but do not sacrifice people for journalistic hubris.

Report this commentI think there are two other major issues why cases like this go so wrong and cause such damage to children.
First, is that there is no effective quality control over the single judge who hears such cases and Judges are as prone to bias and over-emotional involvement and consequent distorted perceptions as are all professionals.
Second, is my understanding that the companies who insure local authorities (e.g. Zurich) require that social services never concede that they have made mistakes (no matter how obvious the mistakes are and how disastrous the consequences).

Report this commentThis case is appalling, and I dread to think how many other horrific incidents there are involving other families. The professionals involved should be named, prosecuted and struck off. This is State-sanctioned child abuse of the highest order.
I can only suggest that all families affected by abuse from social workers and medical professionals cease complying with gagging orders, and publish their stories on the internet and in letters to the press. Name names, tell your story, they cannot arrest all of you, and as they have already stolen your children I doubt there is much worse the State can do to you. We need to know how big this problem is, so that the ordinary citizens can fight for you. We need to know who is committing this abuse. If social workers and medical incompetents are known, we can avoid them ourselves.
The rest of us can do our best to state dismantling the State data capturing, monitoring and surveillance regime. All volunteers, stop helping out. Those who benefit from your actions will understand. Refuse to give personal details to organisations that ask for them. Write to your local authority and ask how many children have been removed from parents in your area - cite the Freedom of Information act.
The sane and sensible majority of this country needs to get off its backside and act, NOW!

Report this commentThis story is a tragedy, yes, but not uncommon. The BBC's excellent "File on 4" at the end of last year focussed on the way that the RSPCA involved itself even more closely with childcare work and become "embedded" using the Links Group. The "charity", although it formally dropped its declaration for animal rights at the end of the 1990s, is still very political. The fact that the poor mother was Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Association can't have helped. The fact that her husband was a dog breeder, whose livlihood depended on dealing with dogs will have put them in the sights of the "NULABA" extremists that run the RSPCA. Look for connections between lawyers handling the childcare case and the RSPCA's private prosecution. Were the advocates all based at "RSPCA Chambers"? Have the Solicitor prosecuting the husband and the barrister doing the childcare case for the Council had children together?

Pass the address to anyone you know who can help or need help.
Good luck to the victims - who often end up merely fulfilling quotas where they langusish in childrens' homes.
Meanwhile the corrupt use the silence for self enrichment!
Already in three days the StolenKids-Bloggers.blogspot.com has come alive and it will grow as a self help resource and a force for good - in the hands of the families and supporters.
Good luck to the honest.

Report this commentOh it won't stop here.
Soon children will be separated from their parents (and the parents probably arrested) for such 'abuse' as the family holding a religion, believing in democracy or reading the wrong kind of books (you know, the ones with heterosexual parents or some concept of morality.)
The country continues it's slide to total communism.
It can't be stopped now. The EUSSR will see to that. First chance I get, I'm outta here! I'm recently married. The UK is no fit country for family.

"The reporting of this story is written in such pejorative language as to almost defy belief and the reason for it, as far as I can see, has less to do with indignation at the treatment of the family but more about whipping up anger on reporting restrictions. The press want to get inside the family courts. This is about expanding their market as much as it has anything to do with righteous indignation. I always get an uncomfortable itch when the Press become 'righteous'. The lives of families caught in these situations should be spared from the salacious ogling of profit making private companies and a gawping, voyueristic, and judgmental section of the public who are only too quick to spew bile on those they deem unworthy at the bottom of a column such as this."
===================
Let me guess. You're a social worker, or someone with something to lose by freedom of the press. Child Protective Services, and all its subindustries fear, more than anything else, the exposure of their hypocrisy and lies. For once the press exposes them, they can no longer reap the financial and other rewards that come with being deemed a child protector. The truth will out, Joe. I would start looking for a different form of employment, and find some way to make amends to the children, families, and society. Being a whistle blower might be a start.

Report this commentI have noticed from reading through these comments that there is a belief, though not widely held, that this case is somewhat unique and so, by implication, we should not worry too much. NOTHING could be further from the truth.
I have to read emails from people suffering in these ways day after day and not just in Britain but all over the western world. Everywhere in fact that Socialism has left its grubby hand prints. In almost every case, the story with regard to the official response to parents and children is the same. Judges make appalling, brutal and savage judgements based on nothing more than hearsay or one sided reports, compiled in secrecy by idiots with an agenda. Policemen and women rush to remove children from homes on the say so of social workers and often use violence to do so. Without apparently, ever stopping to consider anything so trite as evidence of wrong doing. A mere suspicion that something might be wrong is often enough.
Now, we must be careful here. If there is a suspicion that a child is being hurt then that child should be taken to safety. However, once in a safe place, every effort should be made to collect evidence that the suspicion is justified and that should be done by people with no axe to grind who are not social workers involved in the case. Only when all other avenues of investigation have been completed should social workers involved be allowed to submit their evidence. The compilation of that evidence should be overseen by others not involved in the case also.
Neighbours and friends need to be interviewed to see if they have seen or heard things of note or concern. No one should be allowed to make an anonymous accusation against anyone. Parents should be interviewed apart and then again together by the police. If the suspicion is one of sexual or physical abuse then the child needs to be examined by the local hospital staff and not a select band of so-called experts all working from the same silly theoretical model they picked up in some conference of hippy type psychiatrists in Copenhagen one Summer.
Redress needs to be made available for those who are falsely accused against their false accusers with adequate levels of compensation being paid for the distress caused and in cases where redress is sought, all paperwork pertaining to the case should be made available. Judges, "experts," social workers managers, medical staff and police officers at all levels should be made to face the courts if their decisions are proven to be incompetent and which have led to harm under the Common Law description of harm. Legal aid for parents seeking redress should be automatic if financial hardship is proven, the costs being met by the State, or by the accused, if they are found guilty.
Cases of child abuse should be given number one priority over all other cases to ensure the system is as fast as care allows and the damage done to the family is minimal.
Parents in cases where the child shows no signs of any physical or real sexual abuse, should not be prevented from seeing their child and should do so daily under supervision to maintain their parental bond while the investigation goes ahead.
The whole outlook should be of returning the child to its parents as quickly as possible unless there are very good grounds for believing that doing so would endanger the child.
It is unreasonable to expect a parent who has just seen their child taken from them to be anything other than distraught. Therefore, it is also unreasonable for their natural anger, confusion and fear to be used against them in a court room unless their reaction is excessive or violent.
The entire court procedure should be open to the public except in cases where the parents themselves, or, the child if legally of age, request secrecy. To claim that anonymity in court protects the child from the public gaze or from guilt etc., is completely false. It assumes that the people who know the family will never notice or talk about the fact that the child is no longer with the parents. In fact, by the time the case comes to court, the whole community will know about it and it will be public knowledge any way. Openness in the courts would tend to end any malicious gossip in the community also.
If a parent is unfit to take care of the child for some temporary reason and other members of the family are willing to take over the upbringing of the child in a temporary capacity, they should be allowed to do so and have preferential rights to do so in law. Safeguards could easily be put in place to ensure that the child is returned to its natural home should the circumstances alter sufficiently for this to happen safely.
Where the parent is a single parent, the absent parent should always be contacted where known and asked if they wish to take over responsibility for the child BEFORE any adoption or care procedures are allowed to take place. I say this because, another thing I hear all of the time is that absent fathers (and rarely, mothers too) are often not absent through choice and would love to have access to their own children. If the absent parent consents and, they are found to be a fit and proper person to have the child, then all maintenance payments etc., should be transferred to the benefit of the new parent.
Below is a press release from Grandparents Apart UK. This is just one of four such cases I have read about in my email box this week. It would be of far more use to the country if an official body were set up to examine these cases independently and to have the power to intervene in a meaningful way whenever such cases are found to be unjust.
Press release
18th July 2009
The Scottish mother who told everyone she was going to visit a friend in Belfast but fled to the republic of Ireland instead is to be given a hearing in the high court in Dublin. A court has sent social workers back to Scotland when they could not produce any legal documents.
The children were removed by Scottish social services but the mother claims she was misled by people she trusted in order for them to gain custody of her children.
Sobbing, she says the days in Ireland with her daughter have been magic, she has begun to get her confidence back and keeps telling me I love you mum She will not let me go anywhere but has to be with me
[edited because of an allegation I cannot substantiate] Irish social workers and the Irish police arrived shortly after and took her daughter away not even allowing them to say goodbye to each other.
There was a court appearance the next morning and the judge said he would not send a child anywhere without legal documents. There never has been any legal ruling on the removal of the children from the mothers care.
The mother has been desperate to get a fair hearing in Scotland but social services have constantly denied her the chance. She claims there is proof of social services committing offences against her and her family.

Report this commentChild Protective Services is a most lawless, brutal gang of criminals. They are the same all over the world. They take babies and children from good, loving parents and then subject the parents to horrific torture by forcing them to jump through hoops, and then ultimately, adopting out their children. Many of these children end up as victims of seemingly respectable citizens, such as the now-notorious Frank Lombard. CPS hides behind privacy laws, but will expose the most private details of a child's/parent's life when it suits them. Make no mistake, CPS is the most sinister gang of thugs to walk the face of this earth. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. They terrorize parents, journalists, lawyers, and all who dare to expose their Nazi tactics. Thank goodness for reporters who expose the truth; they will forever be remembered - along with the parents and others who fight against this demonic organization - as the true protectors of children.

Report this commentI have read every comment, so I would like to just explain, a few facts. When they brought the new Act in ,with the help of both the MP's and the RSPCA. The Government was under the impression that the RSPCA could not be held responsable for their actions.
A test case need to be brought as there are a lot of loopholes in that presumtion.
You may not know if, as the husband did win his case, just except one eliment. Any costs that the RSPCA, are owed or for expert costs etc. Are claimed from the public purse, ( taxpayers money ). If the falsley accussed has no funds. So it seems they bring these cases and elaborate it as much as possible, this is so as you will, send or leave them money. When they get it wrong, they do not pay for their mistakes, you do. The pay their solicitors 3 or 4 times over and above the Legal Aid rates, they even go into the Magistrates Courts, to train the Magistrates, in how to conduct their (RSPCA's) cases before them. Hardly what you might call a level playing field. How can you get Access to Justice, with this one sided reseme. They further spend in the region of 9 million on the staff and cases in their Legal Dept. As for the commen, they are always asking for money. You know the extra 15,000 animals per year since the new Act, has come in, equates to 1.05 per inspector per week!!.
How many more lives will they distroy, and remember they advised the Government during its passage through Parliament
Some MP's and Lords showed concern to what was happening,
but the majority ignored the serverity of the legislation, its impact and its ability to be used against the
selected victim.
As for the case we are discussing The Police were used because a certain person was told by Jenny that Daddy feeds the dogs dead rabbits. So here you have the cache of guns, only basic air rifles then.
They were never shown a warrant, and to be perfectly honest, who would not 'kick off'in this fiasco, and vent their anger.

Report this commentThese stories are becoming all too frequent.
In the interests of child safety, social workers have decided to robe themselves with the anonymity granted by an act of Parliament, to avoid scrutiny of their shortcomings, akin to state secrets involving National Security..
Unfortunately, this has being going on for decades, to varying degrees. I have previously related a story where I was involved on behalf of a parent who was trying to obtain custody of a natural child who had been put up for adoption by the other parent.
As I recollect it, this occurred 30 plus years ago, social workers took over the child, placed the child, a baby, with a family and then withheld the particulars of the family for some months. This was only revealed after a court order was obtained and a report on the family was eventually disclosed. The family wanted to adopt a baby.
It subsequently came out that one of the parents had a life-threatening condition, in certain circumstances. Those circumstances could have come about all too easily at any time.
The official Solicitor was also involved, ostensibly in the interests of the child. To say that I was unimpressed by their conduct would be putting it mildly. There was a lot of blather about their concerns for the welfare of children, but that is all it was, blather, there was no sense of urgency.
The months passed, and eventually the matter came to court and a judge, because there had been bonding because of the delays (engineered by the social workers) ordered that the child should remain with the people with whom the bond had been established, denying the rights of the parent. All because of the delays of the social workers. Was it because the client was a foreigner whose intentions and the care the child might receive abroad? I don't know, but it was my opinion at the time that this was a material factor, but because of the vagueness of this, could not be brought into account.
I have another tale to tell, not a tale, fact. Parents moved into an abandoned building on a cold winter's night to get children out of the cold. They made a small fire in the grate. The police intervened, took away the children, and aided and abetted by the social workers, kept the parents away from the children for two to three weeks until they were ordered by a juvenile court to return the children.
In justification of their actions, the police made 2 phenomenal scientific discoveries (never subsequently replicated). One was that asbestos burns, the other was that these of alcohol present in urine and beer and wine is capable of being ignited by a spark (god forbid you should be smoking at the time to go to the loo) and burns with a blue flame. This was not your local police, this discovery came from the forensic department of new Scotland Yard. The police and the social workers insisted on a hearing to keep the children away from the parents. It seems to me that truth and child abuse were the the main casualties.
Truth by the police, child abuse by the police and social workers.
Alf, working with children's mental problems. If that be the case, and even if a social worker, you too would be guilty of child abuse because of the damage done to the children, their emotional and mental well-being and in those circumstances should not be allowed to work with children at all.
The system is desperately in need of change because of the abuse by social workers of children in a safe and stable environment, and where they want well adjusted children for their adoption programs. That is an abuse of process, and nothing less than criminal kidnapping, abduction and no less traumatic for the child/children involved.
In years past, it was the function of the official Solicitor, and probably still use in a number of cases, to look after the interests of a child. With the new legislation, the official Solicitor is out of the loop.
This is no less than state/court sanctioned kidnapping and, regrettably, has been going on for a very long time.
The longer the social workers can delay reunification, the easier it is to persuade the court that it is in the interest of the child to remove the child from the stable environment that they had. They even apply for sanction to have the children adopted. That cannot be right.
May I suggest, to counteract the incredible amount of funds that are available to the social workers to achieve their aims, they also be obliged to pay for an expert to match their expert, meeting for meeting, and the expert on behalf of the parent to listen in and observe any interviews, any and all interviews, parents and children and different experts to cater for changes in emphasis with different emphasis, more than one expert. That way there would be a degree of openness and scrutiny of the actions of social workers, and the police, if involved.
If the police are involved, as in this case alleging firearms, and it would not surprise me to hear that the idea of that they went in with was because of an invention on their part, I have seen this on several occasions, albeit not necessarily in relation to children. The degree of force used suggests that the police should have been interviewed under caution, and being made to have reveal the source of the report so its veracity can be tested.
On top of that, the blanket gagging of parents must be removed . All this does is bind the parents hand and foot in relation to any action that they can take to protect their rights and those of their children.
I am not saying that there are not parents who are bad parents, because there are.
Essentially, and this has been recently upheld, the rule is "justice must be seen to be done".. This rule must be, indeed it is essential, in children's cases, that the public see that justice is being done. Too many stories are coming out about the arrogant abuse of power by social workers in such cases where there is a stable family, and report is being prepared without the parents being allowed to have their representative, a qualified expert, present at any such interviews or being made aware of the nature of the allegations until months later. This lends itself to abuse by the "protecting" service, protecting their own back, not looking after the interests of the child. If not revealed at the time, the authorities cannot, without overwhelming incontrovertible evidence either bring it up or rely on it.
An opportunity should be given to the parents to appoint their own social expert and that that is expert be allowed to sit in on interviews conducted by social service and that until that facility is made available, social services are not allowed, directly or indirectly, to interview the child. Professor what is his name, South something or other, struck aff and then reinstated, as an expert in child matters, but prohibited from being involved here after with children, is a prime example of another expert being required to prevent abuse, expanding on pet themes, theories.
This is yet another case following on from the recent case of a parent speaking to a head teacher and then the headteacher speaking to social services and the nightmare that followed.
An appropriate punishment for his social workers would be that they are prohibited from having children of their own or having their own children taken away from them because of their lack of judgement. Unfortunately, whilst it is a good idea, it is not good for their children that they have. Preventing them from having children would be a good idea, but never sanctioned. They should be removed from the profession, because if they have one such instance, there are probably others and if they are prevented from having children, they are going to punish parents who do have children in favour of those wanting to adopt.
The social worker concerned must be identified. It is more than likely that there is one such case, the social worker concerned has been involved in other such cases and has caused parents to suffer, unnecessarily, because of their lack of judgement. This will only be revealed if their names are known. This does not identify either the family or the child so there is no excuse for keeping the social workers name secret, other than to protect the state from claims of negligence and damages. That is probably the reason for the anonymity rule. It is also the thin edge of the wedge by the state to control our thinking, do not make waves otherwise do not be surprised if your children taken away.
If a doctor suspects abuse, within 48 hours the state must pay for the doctor of the choice of the parent to verify the original findings, as an expert for the parents. All too often these allegations are made months later, when all evidence is no longer available, other than the word of the attending physician. The allegation must be scrutinised at the time, not left to a report to appear months later which, whilst largely factual, could have been the result of some entirely innocent action/incident, as in the case of the child falling down the stairs.
Actions for negligence must be allowed if the allegation is suddenly sprung several months later. The parent should immediately be informed to allow them to obtain independent expert advice, scrutiny of the original physician's finding.
Clearly the state wants children's cases dealt with in the same way as state secrets. What is needed to be protected is the names of the child and the parents, not the finding of abuse by the state, its servants or agents. Clearly they are seeking to protect themselves from having to pay substantial damages, even punitive, where there is an overzealous social worker/physician or where they have their own agenda.
The above rules (by statue, careful drafting) could easily be achieved without disclosure of the identity of the child and all the parents and at the same time being open to public scrutiny in respect of the behaviour by state employees. It would be more expensive, but cheap in terms of child abuse by the unwarranted actions of state employees who may have an agenda of their own, or be put up to it in return for past future/favours.

@ Ursa - You know as well as I do that judgments can be made public and anonymised to protect the identities of the child.
This is on occasions done in the family courts. Family courts should be more transparent. After all, families/parents/children are not complaining about their private lives being laid out into the open.
The only people concerned about greater transparency are the professionals. Why is this? What have you got to hide?
I have gone through hell and back because of 1 rogue social worker and let me tell you something, I will have their job and make sure they never works again as a social worker.
If it wasn't for other social workers being truthful I would have lost my child and would be subject to further intervention if I had more children. It is this level of pure evil that must be addressed because I won't and can't let that go.
Thankfully I have encountered some great social workers with massive amounts of integrity, however if there is just 1 that is a bad apple that I have experienced then it tends to suggest that there could be more and it is these types that should be sacked and struck off.
If you are a good social worker then there should be nothing to be frightened or wary of. Greater transparency will only expose the pure and utter evil social worker types that I have mentioned. All other professions are accountable, so why not social work?
I would never have believed the issues as described in this article had I not have experienced much of the corruption myself.
I feel grateful every day for coming across some really good social workers who have undone much of the damage that this horrid social worker did to me and my family.

My horses were stolen, ignored by the Police. The Civil Court senior Judge did not now the Law, he was dealing with. Listened To the Defendnts Barrister because he had not looked up the correct outcome.
This has invoked concern by the Law Commission. He then forced me to give up my case, with another mistake. Then another court mistake, because of the total incompetence of every court case, I was party to. Afteryears of fighting the system and three Judicial Reviews which the High Court managed to lose. I had more rare breeds taken. I then had to do something so deceided
to write a book. As I knew there must be many victims of this government, who quite honestly, do not realise they are victims. The Courts act in a way, like what happened to the Jones and convince the people in front of them, that they are wrong, and the courts are right. So just imagine how many poor soles, are out there. So I am writing a book to name abd shame the awful extent of injustice from the Labour Goverment, who should be called the Vacume Government, as they sweep everything under the carpet. I would love to hear from fellow victims to includes some extra facts. After losing in total 21 rare breed horse, and suffering from stress, I was swooped on by the RSPCA and taken to Court because, my very late pregnatcy mare, had lost weight, but there was nothing wrong with the others. To cut a long story short, the Solicitor was a disaster and the Barristewr not much better. I appealed by way of Case Stated myself, still not gone off, to the HIgh Court after nearly 8 months. This is not my fault. My grounds Perversion, Perjury and failure to Disclose. I made a complaint to the Charities Comm. and the Attorney General. Of course, as we all know as it is nothing to do with them. I had a letter this week suggesting, I go to the Justice Dept. I am sure that not only don't what they are doing, I do not know what their office does either. Report this commentNot only is the removal and prolonged detention of this little girl manifestly cruel and unjust, the long term outcome for her planned adoption (against her own wishes and that of her parents) is highly likely to be unsuccessful.
Children of this age cannot be "re-potted" like plants (this is the theory of adoption that UK social workers adhere to). Any adoptive placement is likely to breakdown as the girl with increasing age gains more cognitive understanding of her situation.
How can the prospective adoptive parents proceed in good faith given the unjustness of this child's removal from home? The adoption 'industry' in the UK has a great deal to answer for.
When this girl is an adult she will have a very strong case to sue social services, and other professionals/agencies concerned.

Report this commentHaving had a run in with the SS some time ago (and won), I have had nothing but hatred for these people. I know of one person who is training to be a child social worker, so thick this person is that they have to have a special teacher to get them through the course (and more time). This persons kids are known druggies and have been in care and of course have had several little tax burdens between them. Hell will surely open up for many to come when this low life hits the streets running !!. We need to lobby for social workers with brains as a minimum requirement .

Report this commentI can't believe that Social Services are trying to campaign to have their image portrayed differently in the media.
The article in Take A Break was a complete joke and instigated by them!
Social Services are trying to silence those who have experienced injustice at the hands of so-called professionals.
Articles like this one where the TRUTH is told is what needs to be in the media! This is what the PUBLIC need to read about!
I must say I think the Telegraph should give themselves a pat on the back for reporting this. They certainly have my vote now and will hopefully capture the attention of all those who are disillusioned about how the system really works.
Social Services are taking children away from loving family homes and failing children who are in desperate need for intervention. Basically they are failing children and families on every level possible!

Once we see ( remember 'Justice' must be "seen" to be done ? ) a 'Just' appeal investigated and openly remedied, THEN we just may start to think about rebuilding trust in these poor, underpaid and overworked, over-regulated and overly abused "Social Workers" - until then they remain on MY 'most-hated' List - Live with it !

Report this commentBlood chilling story that confirms that sense of suffocation, and fear of showing normal love and concern especially in regards to children, when I spent a year in the UK after 25 years away. Even teachers fear helping children in distress and being innocently dragged into abuse cases.
The natural balance of justice requires that mechanisms to effectively challenge such power as the social workers hold over individuals, at every stage of this sorry story.
A true challenge for the Mother of Parliaments to correct, for civil society to realise and activists to fund raise for civil action against the anonymous civil servants.

we are going to set up a protest mark in our area of east sussex to show people just what is going on, unfortunetly the "smiths" tried to do the same thing but were stopped by social services,we have no press ban on us so lets see if we can not only help us but help the "smiths" aswell.we are as the "smiths" did are going to appeal lets hope that more publicity helps get our babies back.
i must also add that we did ALL assesments asked of us by social services but all they did was use them against us so it seems that if like the "smiths" you dont do all assesments it goes against you and if like us you DO all the assesments that too goes against you.i would love to name the social worker involved but am not sure of the lagality of doing such a thing, surely just adding A.T.cant harm ay.

There are so many reasons why you are wrong it is hard to know where to start.
Overworked and underpaid? Firemen, Policemen, Teachers, Nurses and many, many others , are proof that this is irrelevant.
If the problem is that our society is full of scum, why were the moronic vermin involved in this story harassing decent people and ruining their lives? Why werent they off dealing with the scum and leaving these poor people alone?
Social workers are not allowed to tell their side of the story. THEY DONT HAVE A SIDE NEIL. They are not players in the story. They are supposed to be professionals, there to help, to protect and to support.
They are not supposed to show initiative? Does that mean that when they interpret a story about a child with a lollypop as being code for forced oral sex, they are following a book? There is a book somewhere that tells them to believe this?
Neil, obviously your wife is a social worker, but that doesnt excuse the fact that the social workers in this story have behaved so badly they should be left in a dungeon and eaten by rats. Since this is a democracy, they should be named, shamed and sacked.

Report this commentAside from the obvious tragedy of this case, which one would hope will now be expediently resolved, the gargantuan elephant in the room is once again the overbearing, unaccountable, intrusive control-freakery of New Labour State apparatus. This county is becoming unbearable to live in. For all intents and purposes there has been a coup detat during the last 12 years whereby appalling legislation (both home-grown and EU imposed) has systematically removed the rights of the individual. The only way things will change for the better is to kick Labour out and make sure the alternative (at the moment only the Conservative Party) is aware of public anger and therefore committed to protecting liberty, democracy and reining in State power. The UK has sleep-walked into a benign dictatorship.

Report this commentThis is absolutely disgusting but it doesn't surprise me. Our children are now "owned" by the state. If anyone seriously believes that parents are just fighting the social services, they are incredibly niave. Parents are up aainst the judiciary, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, lawyers etc who make thousands of pounds "trafficking" our children. Any parent who tries to fight, risks being sent to prison, such is the draconian laws of the family courts.
I believe we will come to know in the future of a "stolen generation" of children who will seek justice for being ripped from the arms of loving parents. There is no way they will succeed in forcing this child to accept a new family. As for the people who knowingly steal innocent children, what goes around comes around, you will regret it one day.
As for Marietta Higgs, she works in Kent I believe. Unknowingly to lots of you is that Paediatricians in Leeds are still using the RAD technique to accuse innocent parents and remove children, but no-one is stopping them, so the Cleveland Enquiry did nothing to stop this injustice.

Report this commentIt is easy to criticise the heartless bureaucrats who run the family court system ,but it is better still to suggest remedies that could end the present injustices;-
SO: What to do?
- Stop the secrecy and the gagging of parents forced to remain anonymous and unable to complain under their own names.
- Stop adoptions of children for emotional abuse or for "risk", and open adoption records to children already adopted.
- Stop judges deciding cases of long term fostering or adoption, and give juries the final decision. Better still abolish forced adoption altogether!
- Stop excessive rewards for those who live off the misery caused by this wicked system!
This would be a very very good start!

Report this commentI personally know of a family broken apart by social services and the trauma will not leave the family or friends ever.
The two siblings were adopted into a family who were able to provide every advantage and every possible thing that money could buy. The birth mother, who had very little in material terms, cared so much for her children that she could have been said to have fussed over them. The professionals decided that she had Munchausen's by proxy and took the children away and had them forcibly adopted. Friends financially and personally supported the mother in a legal fight to win the children back but to no avail.
The elder child attained it's 16th birthday last year and immediately returned to the birth family leaving the other sibling behind. It is expected that the other sibling will return on the attainment of it's 16th birthday.
So many wasted years and so many tears.
This is a situation which is more prevalent than the general public realise and the worst of it is that it is being done in our name.

Report this commentWe spend so little on social services that out of 500,000 referrals a year only 30,000 can be picked up. Social work like education has been infested by political dogma but most often there is a high turnover . The money paid does not keep people in post and very little would compensate one for the horridness of the work. It ends up with Baby Ps and thousands of children left in squalor and neglect.
So we have no room to talk here. We are not prepared to pay for well trained excellence. It is worse that giving the Army an undo able job. Just letting prurience rein will not fix this. The way the service is conceived makes it an impossible job.
But I really detest the premise here that there is no such thing as expertise. This is what the Left have been pushing for years. There is no such thing as knowledge, expertise, or professionalism. They are too middle class and must be crushed.
Then we go on to the idea that we all have a "right" to know about every detail of everyone's abject misery. No we don't.This is not Big Brother, this is not entertainment. And lastly journalists with no training in any relevant discipline think they know better. Well no they don't.
There were 4 different psychiatric reports by presumably 4 different psychiatrists. None of them apparently can possibly know what they are doing because journalists know better. No they don't.

Report this commentThis is a bizzare case presented
by Christopher Booker--even more
bizzare than the earlier he cited. That in his July 4 article: Is the state guilty of child kidnap?" where I posted my
commentary at 6:33 AM.
There are so many episodes or
errors bordering in ignorance
of law, excessive interference,
negligence, invasion of privacy,
professonal misconduct, false
arrests, false imprisonment,
civil rights volations,,
possible incidents of assault
and battery charges; and more.
But, it's hard to ascertain
which ones apply. Because, in
the first place, it's not stated
if search was lawful, officially
warranted by a judge based on
credible, substantiated and
reasonable corroborated evidence
that victims had a gun.
Is there any picture of him with the gun? Are there other witnesses to testifying that they have seen him with a gun? Can they describe what kind of gun, if possibble, to add more credibility to the claims?
Are winesses reliable, or just
the hostile type who have
qualms with victim. What kind of
neighbors are they? Have there
been previous altercations to
suggest sour grapes? What kind
of resident is the dog breeder?
Is he a nuisance? Some of these
issues can't be ascertained. But, they are necessary to determine or justify the level force used or kind of treatment used on victim and his family.
Unlike in the previous case
Booker brought which I analyzed,
failure to show ID was a reasonable ground to deny
immediate, peremptory custody of
the child which triggered a
comedy of errors thaat led to
further mistakes of law and
misppalications of law. Here,
case i that dog breeder did not
know date of dog de-tailing-
prohibition legislation had kicked in. Here, also, it's up to court or judge to exacc maxixmum penalty or award
clemency under first-offender
discretions.
In a place like the United
States this could trigger a
flrry of personal-injury claims,
along with civil-rights violation litigations. The
reason why these obnoxious
incidents happen in is because, there seem not to be sufficiant victims-rights legislations
in Great Britain. It's still
under development. This will
allow individual unreasonably
mistreated or hurt in the
process of state law enforcement
administration or operations to
seek judicious compensation and
public-perception redress so
that victims could reclaim
their reputation in a society
where presumption of guilt in
ordinary ciusmtances has
superseded the presumption of
innocent, until proven guilty legal traditions. Some level of remediations are needed in this case.
I can't go any further. I have a
staff meeting to attend in next
two hours to last for the
next 2 to three hours. Good
presentation of case story by
Booker.

The Nulabour Party is packed with worthy Social Worker MPs who daily wear their virtue on their sleeves as they pursue their petty self-aggrandising personal projects to impose their will on the rest of us for our own good.
This shocking story, straight from Kafka, is exactly what one should expect after twelve years of Nulabour Orthodoxy enforced by mountains of Nulaw on every social front. Social Workers have always had a bad press and their disgraceful negligence in so many real child abuse cases is legendary-but they are now becoming an active element in the Ideological and Repressive State Apparatuses so skilfuly explained by the Marxist philosopher Louis Althusser.
In Nulabour and all its works we have truly bred a monster to devour all our formerly cherished rights and freedoms. If any of our liberties are to survive,we must roll back the power of the State.
Robespierre was brought down and executed, Marxist intellectuals have seen the dangers of 'one dimensional man' crushed by the manipulative state and yet... Nulabour goes on and on.

If the social workers don't take kids away and something happens they are vilified and hounded; if they do they are hounded. they are not allowed to give their side of the story and one off events that may be as portrayed here (or may not) are used to attack the whole profession.
Social workers in child protection are under paid and over worked, they are driven by government mandated rules and targets and risk punishment if they show any initiative and deviation from the process. Exercising personal judgement is discouraged.
Social workers are routinely assaulted and threatened by some of the scummiest people in our country and get no thanks for the good work done, just abuse for the small number of failures.
Basically they are damned f they do and damned if they don't, by self-appointed armchair experts who have never faced any of the people or situations they face.
The problem is not social workers its the fact we have so many vile scum in this country and the vast majority of us prefer not to notice what our neighbours get up to - we leave it to the police and social workers then criticise them.
Social workers and their ilk have many failings, but the principle failing is in society as a whole and it starts with the failings of government and the 4th estate.

I can only say that the girl is 7 years old ,loves her parents, knows their address and phone number, and would make any adoption impossible as she hates all those responsible for breaking up her happy home !
Why has nobody considered this important point?

For centuries, the main bases upon which people could hold sway over others was by means of warrior prowess, priestly / shamanistic status, age and sagacity or sexual wiles. Now we have credentialed 'experts' in every aspect of human endeavour including parenting and child-rearing. Report this commentChild Protection Social Work is an oxymoron for a shabby collection of politically motivated under achievers trying to assert their distorted vison what is normal and healthy through unacountable acts of self-aggrandizement. I write this as a former senior manager in social work. The root of the problem lies in the training and in particular the prevailing culture of self interest amoung child pritaction trainers. Where I worked the "National Expert," on CP training had last been in social work practice in the 1970's and had been churning out the same model of training ever since.
If you want to measure how effective the quality assurance of CP social workers is just ask the following ;
a) What proportion of them have actually undertaken the Post Qualifying Award (PQSW) ?
b) What proportion have failed?
I think you may be surprised at the answers.

Report this commentThe Hell that is Britain today. In a nutshell. I believe that Socialism is cult-like in its mindset. Its modus operandi is to operate on closed logic and be oblivious to rational thought. Marxism.
Ghastly people. A threat to freedom everywhere they manifest themselves.
The Stasi (DDR) operated most effectively using humiliation and social shaming. It never made mistakes. How could it? It sought to protect people from themselves and from corruption by anti-progressive forces. If you did't tow the line you were evidence of the anti-social and-anti-progressive elements seeking to undermine the workers and peasants state. Pointless trying to refute their charges. They were, after all, experts with years of experience of such things! And, of course, the never made mistakes or acted on incomplete evidence.
I had relatives in the former DDR. I feel instinctively that the many cases I hear from Britain would fit neatly into the Stasi files. Ie Stealing of Roma children because their parents would not conform to their status as workers in the socialist paradise provided tower blocks.

Report this commentI'm an animal lover but since living in France have decided that generally the British vocal minority prefers animals to people. How is it that the RSPCA has been able to wield such power and can call in large numbers of policemen? As another reader has said, it's so easy to attack decent, civilised people. Where are all these police when horrible crimes are being committed in your inner cities? Surely, the 18 officers who turned up armed with pepper sprays to search for non-existent weapons could have been better employed patrolling dangerous streets where weapons do exist? Perhaps that would be too risky for these "boys in blue"! Until Britain stops its over-sentimentalisation of animals and realises that people are more important matters wil not improve. It makes one ashamed to realise what this couple and their child have endured when the rest of us have been going about our normal, happy lives. What was the judge thinking? Perhaps thinking isn't something he does.

The system they work to is perverted by secrecy "to protect the child." this aim being utter rubbish. The Government admit that there is little appropriate training and it is clear there is little vetting of the social workers themselves - many of whom are decent upright folks either overworked to the nth degree by the social structure imposed upon us in this failing country or ruled by ignorance at the head. Of course no-one will be blamed or will be asked to leave when justice is done in this case because that would be an admission that the policy is wrong. Report this commentAbsolutely appalling story.
Democracy is the cause of this state (pun intended) of affairs. By casting a vote, we assent to the delegation of power to the state. The state uses its "democratic mandate" to operate as a machine. Individual social workers (with a possible exception here), probation officers, police officers etc. are not to blame, but are contractually designed to be cogs in the machine. There is no accountability, because the democratic process takes the place of a true accountability, which would lead to the abolition of the flawed process. The state machine will never abolish its own processes.
Hans-Hermann Hoppe is worth studying. As he points out, privatised government (i.e. monarchy) is more just, more efficient, more responsive and far more accountable than nationalised government (i.e. democracy), any day.

Report this comment"Alf
These decisions are not made by social workers alone."
Alf - Obviously you are a social worker, you should declare your partiality.
Regarding your quote I have two words for you - Marietta Higgs.
This woman went to one conference and learned one unreliable and unproven technique. She came away and started applying it in her work, with no permission or authority from her management. The fact that it involved an intimate and traumatic examination, administered without parental permission, worried no-one, least of all her.
Suprise suprise, she started to find "abuse," everywhere she looked, as soon as she started using her wonderful new technique, way above the expected norms. Again, this should have been a moment to stop and re-evaluate, to use other techniques, to cross-reference the results of what was, let us not forget, an unproven technique.
This did not happen. What did happen was that the evil Higgs mobilised the full forces of the state and ripped dozens of children from their families. Dozens of young lives were traumatised; the reputations of many more innocent people were besmirched. The mess took years to sort out and today, many families still suffer because of this stupid, evil, incompetent woman. A common urban myth is that the people of Portsmouth could not tell the difference between a paediatrician and a paedophile. In the Higgs case, there was no apparent difference.
So Alf, how does your comment square with the Cleveland story. Obviously it does not, because you are wrong. Social workers get what they ask for and any controls, are inadequate.
You might argue that this was a long time ago, but are things any different now? Well, let us ask what happened to Higgs. That might tell us how seriously the state took this issue. Was she imprisoned? Surcharged? Disbarred? Prohibited by court order from going within 10 feet of a child?
No.
Until a couple of years ago she was still working with children. In Surrey instead of Cleveland. She may have changed her name, but she still believes she was right.
The fact remains that this evil woman who brought misery to so many through her sheer incompetence, was allowed to continue working in her profession says everything you need to know.
Alf, you are just plain wrong.
Cameron needs to save money. He could start by sacking every social worker in the country and employing dinner ladies to do their job. They would be better at it.

Report this comment20 years imprisonment would not be too harsh for all in the social services department involved in this.
Equally the RSPCA inspectors who chose to 'strengthen their case' by laying seemingly false accusations before the police should face prosecution under threat of imprisonment.
So long as this government sanctions and encourages the abuse of power by social workers and quasi-state instruments such as the RSPCA and gives them legal protection from the consequences then for so long should responsible ministers be liable to prosecution and long-term incarceration.
This must be brought to an end without further delay and any and all judges who believe in unpholding justice must stabd up now to ensure it is ended.
Perhaps it is time that all sensible and reasonable minded citizens attended, picketed and demonstrated at all hearings of the family and children's courts until judgdees and politicians realise we will no longer stand for these abuses by the state.

Report this commentI'm really appalled reading this. As one poster has said, "This is not Britain" and certainly not the country I was brought up in. I've always had a suspicion of social workers having experienced injustice from them nearly 30 years ago. Most of them are "the scum of the earth" and they have been given this power by New Labour that has destroyed the country I and others once knew. If you can leave, do so - before it is too late. Churchill once exaggerated that a Labour victory in 1945 would be equivalent to the Gestapo knocking on the door. 64 years later he is right in terms of New Labour.

Report this commentJacob Steel, there is a simple explanation for the seeming dichotomy between Social Services needlessly taking away the children of loving parents, and failing to take them away from the likes of Baby P's.
Those social workers are terrified of the type of people who were in Baby P's home. Intervene? Why, someone could get hurt, mate. Be reasonable.
The loving parents, now, those are easy targets. Not dangerous at all. Plus they're the kind of people who need putting in their place, see?
No contradiction at all here. Both sets of behaviors are easily explained by the presence in UK government, including social services, of vast numbers of petty, vindictive, hate-filled bullying cowards.
I agree that this particular aspect of that regime deserves full front-page coverage.

Report this commentThe Social Services are only copying the successful destruction of the RAF and Army families, because they can succeed in taking children away from their main carer, who is virtually a lone parent. Then the commissioned officer can divorce his slave/wife and take all of the promised pension and the substantial gratuity payment(intended for house purchase)which was entered in the monthly salary leaflet. Near retirement the couple are posted to a HQ unit where a divorce is contrived and the wife is advised to visit the CAB to hire a solicitor, where unbeknown to her the MoD has planted an ex Wing Commander as manager, who processes all the special slave / wives through the next door solicitor. We are asset stripped with a vengeance, no half pension or substantial gratuity payment,(intended for house purchase)but worst of all we never see our abducted and brainwashed children again. When I discovered the fraud I corresponded with the Head of the CAB and stopped it. The bent solicitor lost his `nice little earner` as he was cornering the local market in Legal Aid Certificates, therefore he was compensated by being promoted to the President of the Law Society, thus ensuring that no other solicitor would take our case to sue him.

I always get an uncomfortable itch when the Press become 'righteous'. Were my family willfully, knowingly, and evilly destroyed over a period of years, by social workers and police, I would exercise my 2nd Amendment Rights in a forceful and notable manner. After all, the 2nd Amendment was not written with regard to duck hunting. It was written so that the citizen could be protected from his despotic government. Somehow your "Civil Servants" have forgotten who has the whip-hand in public/private relationship. The average Brit apparently has also forgotten about individual freedom. Simon - it's not the world that has gone mad, just this country.
This is not the country I knew, grew up in and loved, and I am sure the story behind this article is the tip of a huge iceberg. God help those involved.
This is not a country I will bring my children up in. For many reasons, but the thought that they could been torn away from my wife and myself at the whim of some social misfit according to half understood, misapplied laws that terrorises families such as those in this article is abhorrent to any right thinking individual. Himmler and Stalin would recognise todays Britain. It is no longer my country and is not one I will be associated with.
Thanks to Labour, Blair and Brown this country is morally and financially bankrupt. At every level - finance, defence, employment, economy, law, foreign relations, environment, constitution, social welfare - Europe - they have betrayed this country. THEIR country.
The state has a fundamentally misguided idea of what it's there for and what it should be doing. This article is proof in point. This country needs a MASSIVE injection of commonsense, be rid of Labour, Conservative and Liberal and return to its roots. Only then will this country be worth living in again.
The cause of the problem in this article is at the top. Get rid of that, the poisonous philosophy underpinning the system and the people maintaining a morally criminal system then things will begin to return to normal.
Unfortunately I don't see this happening. Labour won't since they'll see that as failure. Forget that we KNOW they're failures. The Tories won't either since even if they win the next election they will be too weak to do anything to reverse the existing system. The Liberals? Well, what do you think.
For me? I count myself extremely lucky. I'm leaving in seven weeks. Britain will always be the country of my birth, that can never change, but as I said above I will not bring my children up in a country where they and my family may be exposed to injustices perpetrated in the name of the "law".

Why not set up some kind of PUBLIC, overseeing, regulatory body to oversee social workers, akin to the General Teaching Council or Ofsted, to actually see that professional standards are being maintained and that children's interests really ARE being looked after? If the same rigour was applied by the government to social services as to the education system, miscarriages of justice like this would be harder to justify. And as for this poor family...well, I'm sure the European Court of Human Rights would take a very dim view of this travesty, even if our own shambolic legal system has let them down.

Report this commentI have the answer to such ''liberal'' institutional DIKTATS as these. Democratise every ''liberal'' institutional DICTATORSHIP in Britain.
Serve individual and collective ultimatums on any or all of these publicly funded institutional dictatorships - the police, the NHS, the Social Services, the BBC, the House of Lords (especially the Law Lords), local councils et al - that they must carry out the will of the democratic majority, i.e. US.
Inform them that anyone acting in defiance of the democratic majority risks direct action on behalf of this same. They'll get the message, loud and clear - and back down. It works for me.
Forget liberalism. Forget Islamism. Forget socialism. Forget conservatism. Forget ''left wing'' and ''right wing.'' Forget the ''rule of law''. Embrace the ONE thing that trumps ALL of these at a stroke: DEMOCRATISM, the rule of the democratic majority in all things, at all times, in all publicly funded institutions.
We, the democratic majority, rule Britain. Act accordingly. Use the internet. Unite and fight, individually and collectively. The ''liberal'' institutional dictatorships cannot hope to stop us. We are many. They are few.
It's dictatorship and diktat versus democracy and the democratic majority. Remember that. Action this day and every day.
Go to it.

A friend is temp fostering while something is sorted out. Neither parent is capable. The most capable parent is the most dangerous and the most plausible. Report this commentIt sounds like this has been done in revenge by an 'animal lover' - first a visit from the RSPCA about the tail-docking, then 3 days later they turn up again with riot police after a 'tip-off' about guns . . . ?! And just who called social services to take the child instead of a neighbour or relative? The whole thing is a fit-up. If the team of evil minds and hearts which put it together is so proud of its work each member of it should be willing to come forward and be publicly named irrespective of their legal right to anonymity. The fact that they hide shows they know the public lynching they'd get for the wicked, vile things they've done. A happy child has been traumatised for life by them, a mother has lost the child she brought into the world and another child she was bringing into the world all out of revenge for puppies having their tails docked.
I have really admired The Telegraph's skilful reporting over the parliamentary expenses scandal: this story is even more important - I wish the issue was devoted to a front-page campaign as well, and that The Telegraph would instigate and publicise an online petition for the public to sign, demanding an end to these heinous miscarriages of justice. It is very important to get one petition, well-worded and well advertised: Telegraph, are you listening . . . ?

Once it was possible to hold them personally accountable for their actions - sue them for damages, and lift their houses from over their heads - then they would be much more amenable to reason. This should apply to police officers who wrongly enforce injustices (like extortionate clamping charges), not to mention little Hitlers in the NHS, and the recycling brigade. The implication is that you are reporting the tip of a vast iceberg. Hundreds or thousands of similarly broken families exist but are denied publicity because they have no influence.
There is a story here which is bigger, more scandalous and more important than MPs expenses. The police are "tipping off" social workers after bungling their own investigations, so they can use the secrecy of family courts to conceal their mistakes. Social workers are taking children for no reason, and are hiding behind the secrecy of the family courts.
It is time for the Telegraph to make the effort to determine the scale of this scandal, rather than merely reporting on the one or two cases which happen to come to light.
There has never been a better reason for the Telegraph to exercise its talent for investigative journalism.
What is stopping you?

Report this commentHas the world gone mad?
Christopher Booker sets down this appalling story fairly baldly (and yet may still be accused of slanting it) - and we see that the pretext on which the child was retained, and the circumstances of the original need for her to be briefly looked after - never mind what happened to her mother in those few short hours - just does not stand water.
What the hell was going on here? The original situation - falsely believed - led to response which was were totally out of proportion and to a series of events happening to this family which beggar belief.
There has to be a mechanism which takes all the local social workers and even police out of the equation and allows the family to have what is taking place put under an impartial microscope.
The social workers look out of control. The GP and even one of their own are screaming alarm bells. The actions of the horribly treated parents after multiple degrading examinations are held against them.
The idea that any child can be taken from loving parents and forcibly adopted on the whim of social workers - who appear to have got things wrong in the first place then moved hell and high water to try and justify themselves - is anathema. This is about those so afraid of what will happen to them and the compensation case when they are proved to have been wrong that they will do anything to get a result which protects themselves, not the child, not the parents.
This case has to be the subject of an Inquiry.

Report this commentListening to BBC radio 4 question time, it would appear that this type of tragic events will continue. Rt Hon Harriet Harman comments support my contention.
It should not surprise anyone if the government puts forward and carries out a plan to make it compulsory for every parent to be certified before they take their child to the nursery of the school because they also come in contact with other children and indeed have other children for a meal or a sleep over with their own child. This may even extend and become compulsory before a couple are give permission to have children.
We are now in a legal position where 'one is guilty unless proven inocent' and the legal principle of Habeus Corpus is for the books only.

Report this commentSocialism has infected the body of this country at every level - the teacher, policeman, medic, judge, local government official right through to the civil servant and MP. These people must be hounded out of every office and position they hold. It is not enough to prosecute those at the top; the names of every official, teacher, police officer etc. responsible for acts such as these must be noted and severe legal action taken against them. Root and branch is the only method when dealing with socialists.

Report this commentTwo of the commonest story-types in the right-wing press are "incompetent social workers take child away from virtuous parents" and "incompetent social workers fail to take child away from abusive parents".
Social workers have an incredibly demanding and thankless job - they have to make extremely important and traumatic decisions on whether to risk breaking up a normal family or whether to risk getting a child killed by an abusive one.
The information on which they have to make these decisions is inevitably grossly inadequate - we don't have mind-readers or the ability to predict the future. As such, there are always going to be errors in at least one direction, and under a decently-balanced system there will be errors in both. That is tragic, but it is not usually anyone's fault.
Unfortunately, social-workers are one of the bugbears of right-wing journalists, who miss no opportunity to excorciate them in both directions in alternate months, and completely overlook the hypocricy of doing so.
It is certainly entirely possible that in this specific case there has been either malice or incompetence on the part of individuals, but - unless one has far more faith in Christopher Booker's judgement and impartiality than I do - one should demand to hear the other side of the story before assuming that this is the case.

Report this commentI can not tell you how horrified I am with this story. As a parent of two young children, who I love more than life itself, the thought of them being removed from my loving care and put up for adoption (never mind the length of time spent in care with these imbeciles) by social worker nazi's would, in all honesty, drive me to murder.
The state is increasingly overstepping the mark when it comes to protecting children's interests under this socialist government of which this seems an extreme example.

Plainly, you have never had anything to do with Social Services. As a health visitor nearly 20 years ago I was involved in a case when the social worker involved wanted to place a little boy for adoption (and stated openly that she wished she could adopt him and his sister herself - so much for professional impartiality). The mother was told that if she refused to evict her husband from the home the baby she was then carrying would be removed at birth and taken into care. The grounds for all this were flimsy to say the least, and the people who knew the family, the GP and me, were totally ignored. I have yet to meet a social worker whose personality is not flawed in some way. Add to this the power they have and the result is disastrous.

Report this commentTo my mind, a lot of this has to do with successive governments failing to focus on the well-being of the family, per se, as well as, more importantly, promulgating an ideology of political correctness in place of Christian values (especially marriage),and therefore feeling that they have a divine right to intervene and interfere.
The rot began, I believe, after the end of WW2 and accelerated greatly in the 1960's.
What we need to see, therefore, is a return to Christian belief and practice throughout the public sphere. The state could start by giving some recognition to the Church and its teachings, and then promulgating civilised Christian values, which have the person at their centre, and not abstract ideologies, which have a terrifying power to distort society in the way we have seen.

Report this commentThis case is in dire need of being subjected to A TOTALLY INDEPENDENT INQUIRY with the findings made available to public overview.
Many of us who have reported 'the seen' abuse of children have much to say regarding how we and our child abuse reports have and are being responded to, accounted for, recorded, documented and acted upon.
We have much to say regarding the action (or lack of it) taken by the relevant child protection 'bodies'
Our experience of very flawed 'judgement calls' made and being made by the SS is vast !
There is something very 'sick' which is running trough the whole child protection 'system' on A NATIONAL LEVEL.
In the best interest of restoring public confidence in the NATIONAL child protection policy and in child protection in practice there must be an URGENT government lead effort to get to the core of what is going so wrong in so many 'child protection cases'
As part of this effort The people who have had to report that children who they know well are being abused must be consulted and have their EXPERIENCE of reporting child abuse examined.
Many children who are caught up in child protection matters are being failed by very flawed 'child protection judgemdent calls' being made which are ruining many lives!
Enough is enough.
Something must be done and done NOW.
Which brave MINISTER will lead the effort and call for a complete redesign of child protection, in practice?
What has the NSPCC got to say?
How can they urge individuals, who have child abuse concerns to raise, to report them when 'the system' is being seen to be failing to reach the truth of the situation for so many children and being seen to be letting so many children and the adults who care for them down?

Report this commentI can just see how this has progressed from a genuine mistake by the social workers and police to a conspiracy to cover up and pervert the course of justice after Mrs "Smith's" miscarriage whilst under police custody after what appears to be a wrongful arrest.
It is not the "Smiths" who need psychiatric assessments, but the social workers, the police officers involved and the judge who ruled in their favour. We keep on hearing from defenders of the system that we should not enter into a culture of blame against public servants but they have shown time and time again they are prepared to lie and fabricate evidence to cover their own backs. This happens in cases of medical malpractise as well. It is well passed the time when we should have senior social workers, medical professionals and police in the dock facing charges of perverting the course of justice and perjury.
Until then, these corrupt incompetents will merrily go about their evil way of shifting the blame to anyone but themselves, never mind the carnage they create for innocent lives.

Report this commentHere come people saying we all have a "right" to know everything about everyone else. Well no we don't. Even or particularly children deserve confidentiality . They feel shame very keenly and those with insecure attachments feel even greater shame. Imagine having an intimate examination broadcast. That is how it would/does feel to a child to have private business made public. It compounds the damage . And all so adults can play out their personal dramas and career dramas at the childs expense.
Making it all public makes it all much less likely that inadequate parents will be able to quietly and generously admit their
inadequacy because it will be broadcast if they do. "Open courts" will compound the damage to parents as well.
People will always hurt by family courts. They deal with painful matters. It does not mean the judgements are wrong because there is pain. It is unavoidable.

This involved suddenly parting the buttocks and observing whether the anus dilated in response or not. If it did, the child was removed because it must have been buggered.
The good professor used a round of rectal examinations to prove his point. 50% of patients he surprised this way did dilate, the others not. His point, no such correlation could be made. Report this commentAnd you know about a medical report how? These things are subject to confidentiality. Perhaps this child had been sexually abused.Perhaps she told about "the lollipop" while demonstrating an action with an anatomically correct doll. Sexual abuse happens even in apparently nice seemingly normal families. Children still love even abusive parents.
Reporters do not "know better" than a vast range of people from varying professions who are not known to each other and who start with fresh eyes and a desire to behave as professionally as they can. It is possible that these nice parents are very plausible and people have been sucked right in.They may be plausible about covering up abuse and/or plausible about covering up personality disorders.
But journalists doubt there is such a thing as professionalism. They see themselves as crusaders or they just want to sell a story and make a buck.
Children are not put up for adoption without the most overwhelming and convincing evidence and the most exhaustive procedures.

Report this commentFor many years the men's movement in the UK and elsewhere along with many other groups, such as the excellent SNAP run by Anne Harris, have fought to highlight cases such as these and we have been politely ignored by just about everyone.
Fifteen years ago I personally was warning that these things were going on and that Social Services were out of control. Not out of the control of the State but out of the control of the people of this country. Social Services have clearly become a political instrument of the State in exactly the same way as senior management within the police service also has. That is incredibly dangerous.
Perhaps even more disturbing is that there are elements within the medical and psychiatric profession willing to act as the States servants who seem to have forgotten that their primary loyalty is not to the political machine but instead, it is to the people of our country.
It is this politicisation of various social institutions and key members within them that leads to horrendous actions like the one in this report. When the police, social services and various branches of the medical profession become embroiled in ideology rather than in their primary duty to the public, what you end up with is a loose coalition of ardent politicos serving not the best interests of children or anyone else, but a series of twisted political ideas and so-called remedies that neither describe nor serve the population as a whole.
Within the political field, the authors of these theories and solutions cannot bring themselves to see, or often, to even care, that the pathetic ideological lenses through which they see our society are out of focus and distorting their view.
Today's politicians have taken an incredible step in believing that they have a right to interfere, on a micro level, in the lives of ordinary people. Aiding them in this delusion are groups like the N.S.P.C.C. and the R.S.P.C.A. Groups like these become militant tools in the hands of government at both national and local level and find themselves being over zealous with the new powers given to them. That is exactly what is happening with Social Services also. Having campaigned for more power for years, when they are given that power they prove, very quickly, that they cannot handle it.
Politicians, instead of restricting that power again, then step in and start trying to direct it from their remote offices and equally failing to get a grip on things. Add in a little ideology such as the feminist hatred of the family and what you get is an irresponsible, often malicious and people crushing system that is out of control.
There is no real conspiracy at a local level here. (Though there may well be one at higher political levels) Instead, what you get is a bunch of well meaning do-gooders who are extremely incompetent, acting on concert in ways that ruin innocent peoples lives. All of that is bad enough, but when judges who have also been swayed by political pressure, start to back up these appalling events and decisions, you have a recipe for dangerous and sinister activities. Is it any wonder that there is a growing and deeply uneasy feeling in this country that the State has turned against the people?
That these things are done by people hiding behind political slogans such, "what is best for the child" makes these matters all the more disturbing when people can clearly see that the welfare of the child has little or nothing to do with the actions taking place!
This rot set in in the 1960's with the feminist idea that the personal is political being accepted by mainstream politics. It is not! Our personal life is nothing to do with politicians and as long as we are harming no one else, they have no business messing with it.
The politicians and the groups involved in this tragic fiasco should be hanging their heads in shame and doing everything possible to reunite this family. The weirdo that dreamt up the idea that a child choking on a lolly pop was really saying that she had been sexually abused by her father needs to be fired and his/her licence to practice in any kind of medical field irrevocably removed. It is obvious that their logic is on a par with a madman and they are not fit to be around children or adults in any professional capacity.
It is a shame that groups like ours have been ignored when we have tried to raise these concerns in the past. That is largely due to a complacent media being to ready to accept government criticism of us as "trouble makers" and to refuse to take us seriously.
I hope this will change in the very near future because, while much of the media focusses on only the big stories of the day with typical short termism, others in the country are looking at what is going on and warning about long term dangers but they are not being heard, until those dangers become a reality. By then, thousands of lives have been irrevocably damaged. We must be thankful that the media have now caught up but also hope that in future, they will be much more willing to listen than they have been in the past so that these tragic events are not allowed to happen at all.
While children MUST be protected in this country, politicians and the press need to realise that the nuclear two parent family is the safest way to do that and all of the figures prove it.
Governments make crap mummies and daddies. They cannot try and should never try usurp the family as they have been doing. Social services, hostile to the very idea of family for insane ideological reasons, need to learn to become the friend of the family if they are ever going to be effective. The police need to back off from turning into a Social Services militia force willing to raid peoples homes and steal children. Such an idea ought to horrify them. That it does not is one of the most disturbing aspects of modern life in Socialist Britain.

I am sad to say I think this sort of thing will be happening more and more in the future. It is the creeping normalcy of abuse. These institutions are drowning in the blame culture and their focus of conscious attention is on avoiding being blameable and appearing to do good things. The focus is not on doing good. It is perverse and by definition can only result in harm. They are 'keeping' their jobs not 'doing' their jobs. As more and more austerity measures are implemented the net effect will be to increase the abusive behaviour.
ReplyDeleteThe unprofessional, unkind, unreasonable and often actually unlawful behaviour of the individuals goes unchecked until there is a major disaster. Then only scapegoats are found and executed so the culture of abuse becomes more entrenched as individuals become more focused on protecting themselves.
There is a case of Children Services Abuse where Dave is complaining to the Children Services, the Ombudsman, the local MOP, other MPs, the Prime Minister, the General Social Care Council and nothing is being done. If the child died it would be a scandal and heads would roll but until they are caught red handed nothing will get done.
So my advice is to stand against every act of abuse. After all as Horton put it "A person's a person no matter how small" (or apparently insignificant).
